Bridge in the Menagerie
Victor Mollo
Faber and Faber 1989
pp. 152
[ bridge, humour ]
This is a collection of humourous stories set in an imaginary rubber bridge
club in London, built around interesting bridge hands. The hands are cute,
the stories are funny and the characters are memorable (The Hideous Hog and
the Rueful Rabbit are now a part of bridge lore). One of the most famous
bridge books ever written, this should certainly be enjoyed by any bridge
player with a sense of humour - I've read it three times now.
Prerequisites: understanding of simple bridge play techniques: throw-ins,
simple squeezes, etc.
